The history of Rusthall Football Club

🕰️ A Glimpse into the History of Rusthall Football Club

Founded in 1899, Rusthall Football Club has played a pivotal role in the local community. Initially part of the Rusthall Cricket and Football Club, the football division was formalised with the registration of Rusthall FC with the Kent County Football Association on June 12, 1899. The club joined the Tunbridge Wells and District Football League and made its league debut on September 23, 1899, against Vale Rangers. The first match was a tough start, with a 12-0 loss, but the club’s journey had just begun.

The first taste of glory came in 1905 when Rusthall FC won the Division Two championship after a thrilling victory over Tonbridge, celebrated by the ringing of handbells and the throwing of hats in the air. This victory marked the beginning of a long and proud tradition of success on the football field.

One of the most exciting discoveries in the club’s history came in 1999, when a photo from the 1905 season was found hanging in the George and Dragon pub in Speldhurst. This photo, showing the team proudly holding the cup, was a long-forgotten treasure that helped mark the club’s 100th anniversary.

📚 The First 125 Years: A New Book and Ongoing Success

To commemorate the 125th anniversary of Rusthall FC, a new book titled “Rusthall Football Club: The First 125 Years 1899-2024” has been published. Written by club member Ben Martin, this book takes readers on a journey through the club’s history, capturing pivotal moments and celebrating the community spirit that has driven the club’s success over the years. The book is available for purchase through the Rusthall FC website or any local bookshop for £25.

The book covers everything from the early days of the club, including the loss to Vale Rangers in 1899, to the club’s more recent achievements and community contributions. It also highlights the tireless work of volunteers, sponsors, and club members who continue to support the club’s success, ensuring that Rusthall FC remains a thriving hub for local football.

🏆 Recent Match: Rusthall vs. Tunbridge Wells

In a highly anticipated Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division clash, Rusthall faced Tunbridge Wells on April 21, 2025. The match ended in a 1–1 draw, showcasing the competitive spirit and skill of both teams.  

📈 Current League Standing and Promotion Prospects

As of April 25, 2025, Rusthall FC is positioned just below the play-off positions in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division. Promotion is still within reach and the club’s consistent performance and strategic development under Manager Jimmy Anderson promises an exciting future. With continued investment in player development and community engagement, Rusthall FC aims to challenge for promotion in the upcoming seasons.

We've just finished a tenancy with Bracketts and found the overall experience very positive. We had come from a rather negative experience with our previous letting agents in London and Bracketts were much more professional.

We had some viewings with other agents in Tunbridge Wells. One of these agents had stated that we would need to return for a followup interview with the landlord before our application would be considered, and that we should consider what we would to "incentivise" the landlord to go with us in terms of offering a higher rent to compete with other applicants. Needless to say, we did not proceed with that agent.

At our viewing with Bracketts they made it clear they didn't endorse betting wars on the part of the tenants: the price listed was the price that would go forwards. They were responsive throughout the tenancy, and though the building had a few age-related issues, Brackett's responded as well as possible.

Highly recommended if you're looking to rent in the area.

Matthew Saxby was our contact point at Bracketts. It was the second time we have trusted Matt to sell a house for us. Our property was outside of Tonbridge area, but Matt was still confident he could sell our house. It was not a straightforward transaction, and there were a few bumps in the road, but Matt was tenacious and solved problems, suggested alternatives and finally achieved the sale. Marketing of property was excellent, his market knowledge was critical. All calls and emails answered promptly, and the support team were brilliant too, with special thanks to Holly and Janice.
